I’m 73 years old and recently widowed after a 44 year marriage to a beautiful, courageous woman. I have three adult children who live in California, Connecticut and Australia, respectfully. All earned graduate degrees. I am extremely proud of them.
I graduated from UNC-CH in 1962 with a degree in chemistry, decided that I didn’t want to pursue that major and joined the Navy, graduating from Officer Candidates School in Newport, Rhode Island in 1963; one of the best decisions of my life. The service gave me a chance to see the world and grow up a bit. My experience in the Navy allowed me to see the Arctic, Antarctic and Vietnam, among other destinations. The service also gave me a chance at authority and time to give serious consideration to a future.
I decided on dentistry and was lucky enough to be accepted to the University of Pennsylvania to pursue that degree.
I married in 1969, moved to Charlotte after graduation in 1972 and opened a practice that provided not only a good living, but the opportunity to meet thousands of patients many with whom I am still in contact and whose friendship I absolutely treasure. In 2008 my partner and I sold our practices and retired. I still practice, however, doing charity work at a clinic I helped establish that treats at no cost the truly indigent.
I will always hold dear the memory of my wife, but have decided only recently that it’s time to move on; to meet a woman with whom I can travel, pursue various interests and enjoy what’s left of life. I don’t like being alone.
I own an airplane with six other pilots and would like to find someone adventurous enough to sit in the co-pilot’s seat.
My wife and I traveled extensively, cycling in Europe and the US. I am still a member of a cycling team, but due to shoulder surgery had to forgo that sport. I try to work out at the gym 2-3 times a week, but lately have found or invented several lame excuses to avoid serious exercise; so I’m not a fanatic.
