I have been widowed for over 4 years. I have had a great life. I enjoy company and a good sense of humour but also am quite independent. I am more restricted these days but still get out and about when I can. I really enjoy going out eat, reading books, watching films and who dunnits. I do a little gardening and I like visiting gardens. I am 5 feet 2and *stone 12. I do exercises and love to cook and eat. I used to be a theatre nurse and like to keep busy. I have relatives in the USA and Australia and have travelled a lot and lived and worked abroad for many years but now I do find travel a bit more limiting physically but mentally I am young at heart.

Quiet, reserved type, l am interested in computers, films, reading, don't mind gardening, enjoy the outdoors, driving and traveling. Sorry, not a dancer, (two left feet lol) but do enjoy music. I have lived all my life in a rural area and enjoy the countryside. Have 2 girls who are both married. Widowed 2002. Pic with bridge taken 2013, with scenery Sept. 2016, one wearing coat, Dec, 2017. I should add that I was born in Northern Ireland and lived there until October 2016, moved to be closer to family.

I am a retired Oxford professor (Old Testament studies) of 73 but look much younger as you can see from the recent enclosed photos. My wife (also an Oxford don) died recently. I would very much like to remarry if I can find the right person. I am still very active in research and writing and my 17th book recently appeared. My interests include the scholarly study of the Bible, the ancient Near East (Assyriology, Egyptology, Biblical archaeology), politics and current affairs (moderate left//Liberal/Social Democrat), strongly anti-Brexit so disliking the current Tory party), foreign travel (especially Middle East and Mediterranean countries), visiting museums of antiquities and art galleries, classical music, humour (I read Private Eye every week). I have a liberal Christian faith (anti-fundamentalist, thoughtful, intelligent) and attend my local Anglican church. I have a good sense of humour and find it easy to make people laugh.

My friends and family describe me as kind, thoughtful caring and genuine.
I like to keep fit and and enjoy being active regularly. I play tennis several times a week and walk my dogs and explore the local countryside.
I also have a creative side which I have been able to put more time into since I retired as a GP.
I love doing some sculpture and pottery , gardening and tinkling on the piano.
In the evenings I relax by reading and cooking.
My friends and family are incredibly important to me.
I am left leaning and volunteer regularly.
My favourite times are spent in my Catalan farmhouse, at dusk, overlooking the Smokey blue hills .
